WHY DO WE GLORIFY BEING BUSY?

‘I’m just so busy’ is something I hear a lot. From myself too. I’ve been reflecting recently on how we, as a society, glorify being busy, as if it’s a status we should all desire. If we’re not busy, who even are we? What are we doing? Certainly not enough. There’s a sense that if we’re not busy, maybe we’re even ‘lazy’…. VIDEO

If we’re always busy, on the go, high stress… are we ever noticing ourselves? Noticing our body? Are we functioning from a place of authenticity? Are we in flow enough to create, connect, love, be? If we understand that connection and creation flows when we’re relaxed, centred and grounded…. surely rest is one of the most productive things we can do.
Of course there are times when we are, in fact, very busy… many of us are on the brink of burnout. How can we change the narrative so that slowing down is not only ok, but necessary… maybe the only way? How can we allow ourselves to feel safe to slow down? How can we adapt our lives to build in moments of peace and calm? A few deep breaths here, some slow stretching there, presence with people, winding down in the evenings, meditation in the mornings, toes in the grass, one activity at a time, enjoying the little glimmers, step by step. Remembering you’re exactly where you need to be. You’re doing enough. Writing this as a reminder to myself, mostly.
Moving into my slow girl season. Trusting that slowing down, connecting with myself, feeling into the things I love, spending time with beautiful, magical people, will allow what’s meant for me to find me…
