Since having an operation, my acne has peeped back in to say hello 👋🏼 what a treat...

As part of the lifestyle changes I've made to combat these breakouts, I'm consistently taking supplements every day. Of course, it's great to try and get as much nutrition as possible from foods, but supplementation can really help to heal the skin…
These nutrients can help the skin by:
Vitamin A - speeds up wound healing by helping to regenerate cells. It also plays a role in controlling oil production in the skin, so can help to reduce break outs. Found in liver, oily fish, fruits & dairy.
B Vitamins - work to reduce inflammation in the skin so helps to heal inflammatory conditions like acne and can also play a role in balancing hormones. B Vitamins have antioxidant properties, which help to fight off free radicals in the body, others can relieve stress. Found in wheat and grains.
Vitamin C - an essential part of skin health, for collagen formation as well as wound healing, helping to heal breakouts. Also anti-inflammatory and can protect the skin from environmental stressors. Found in fruit & veggies.
Vitamin D - vital for wound healing, supports the protective skin barrier as well as the immune system, which helps the skin to heal. Also reduces inflammation, as well as stimulates production of hyaluronic acid, hydrating the skin. Created by the skin in sunlight or found in oily fish, eggs & fortified foods.
Magnesium - helps to relieve anxiety and stress, can play a role in balancing blood sugar and hormones, as well as improving sleep, which will all in turn impact the skin. Plays a role in keeping the skin hydrated, collagen production, as well as the production of new and healthy cells. Found in dark chocolate, nuts & seeds, avocado, tofu, legumes.
Probiotics - supports gut health, which in turn supports skin health. In particular, probiotics support both the gut and skin microbiome. Important if you've taken antibiotics recently, as it replaces the good bacteria in the gut. Reduces inflammation in the body and balances the skin's pH. Found in fermented foods with live cultures, such as yoghurt, kimchi, kefir, tempeh, sauerkraut and cottage cheese.
Turmeric (curcumin) - super anti-inflammatory, so great for inflammatory skin conditions (such as acne), anti-bacterial and acts as an antioxidant, can balances hormones, as well as help with wound healing as it boosts immune system.
Selenium - helps to protect cells from UV damage, inflammation and pigmentation. It acts as an antioxidant, by neutralising free radical cells that cause damage. Can be found in brazil nuts, seafood, eggs, white meat, brown rice and sunflower seeds.
Omega 3 - probably the juiciest and most beneficial of them all for the skin, Omega 3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and help to reduce inflammatory conditions like acne. They also help to promote a healthy skin barrier, maintain natural moisture levels, regulate oil production, prevent dryness and reduce redness. Found in oily fish, nuts and seeds, avocado.
Zinc - helps to heal and rejuvenate skin. Involved with cellular turnover and immune function and can help to reduce acne. Also works as an antioxidant, lessening free radicals and protecting the skin's fats & fibroblasts. Found in shellfish, meat, dairy, nuts and seeds.
Specific supplements I'm currently taking/recommend to others:
Monday Muse Clarity Complex - Vitamin A-C, Pre & Probiotics, Turmeric, Selenium, Zinc
The Nue Co Barrier Clear Probiotic - Probiotics, Vitamins A, B & D, Zinc
