It's Rosacea awareness month so I'm sharing my top three tips to help you manage Rosacea. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition, showing up on the skin most commonly as redness in a butterfly pattern across the cheeks, nose and forehead, alongside stinging/burning, sensitivity and dry skin, as well as small spots. It’s a chronic condition that needs to be managed. Here are my top tips:
🍊 Get to know your triggers - keep a log to understand what it causing your skin to flare up and when. It’s super important to understand your own skin and what’s causing it to react. The main causes of Rosacea are stress, alcohol, caffeine, vigorous exercise, temperature changes, spicy food/diet... there are many, so try to understand what those triggers are for you. Knowledge is power and you can make changes to your lifestyle to adapt and avoid these triggers.
🍊 Use the right ingredients (while also avoiding the wrong ingredients) - using ingredients that are hydrating and nourishing for the skin will really help, such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, niacinamide and rosehip oil are all great ingredients for rebuilding your skin barrier & reducing inflammation. Other ingredients that are great for Rosacea are azelaic acid and antioxidants. Avoiding fragrance, essential oils, harsh exfoliants & drying ingredients is key too, as these will only be causing more inflammation.
🍊 Manage your stress - a major trigger for Rosacea is stress, so making sure you’re doing things to bring some calm into your life is essential. Things like meditation, breathwork, yoga, eft, journalling, as well as cbd oil and weighted blankets can all really help to calm your nervous system and relieve stress and anxiety, which will in turn calm inflammation in your skin.
If you’re struggling with Rosacea and would like some holistic advice for both lifestyle and skincare, I’m all ears and would be delighted to help you.
