INFLAMED SKIN?

Do you have inflamed skin? Are you suffering from an inflammatory skin condition? Here are four things to consider...
🍊 IMBALANCED BLOOD SUGAR
Repeated blood glucose spikes can negatively affect the health of the entire body. A blood sugar rollercoaster can cause insulin resistance & increase internal inflammation... when there's inflammation in the body, it often shows up on the skin. For more tips on how to manage blood sugar, both @glucosegoddess & @zoe have heaps of helpful info.
🍊 EMOTIONAL STRESS
As well as disrupting our hormones, stress causes inflammation in the body, which in turn impacts the skin. Stress disturbs the skin's microbiome (like your gut microbiome, only on your skin), which affects the skin's barrier, stimulates the production of sebum as well as free radicals into the body, causing damage to cells. There are lots of ways we can manage stress... of course we can't do all of them & it's important to choose what feels good for you.
🍊 OMEGA 3 DEFICIENCY
Omega 3s are essential fatty acids, required for the body to survive. They play an important role in making sure all cells are healthy & make up part of the skin's natural barrier. When we have an insufficient amount, the first place we tend to see issues is the skin. It can both cause or worsen inflammatory skin conditions. The body cannot make Omega 3, it has to be consumed... so If you're not able to eat any of the foods mentioned, I recommend supplementing.
🍊 DAMAGED SKIN BARRIER
I've mentioned the skin barrier a few times already... it's one of the most important factors for skin health. When the skin barrier is damaged or compromised it allows environmental toxins into the skin, at the same time as allowing water to evaporate out (hi dry skin)... skin is often dry, dehydrated, sensitive, reactive, sore & inflamed & this can trigger or worsen skin conditions. A damaged barrier can be caused by lots of different things, so it's about figuring out the cause & building it back up again.
